ECO

The sunshine and warm weather made for a perfect ECO lesson. The children spent the afternoon enjoying the sun, playing games, building sit spots, looking for animal tracks, listening to a story, and making winter "bouquets". It was a full day!

100 Days Smarter!

We celebrated the 100th day of school with a variety of literary and math activities. The kids also enjoyed "touring" the other first grade classes to see the many different ways their peers represented 100.  Check out some of the projects from our room!

New Books!

Our Scholastic book order arrived today along with all of these free new books for the classroom.  I was able to choose them with points earned from purchases made by you! Thank you!

Post Office Visit

The first graders toured our Montpelier Post Office today to learn about how postal workers help in our community. We helped sort packages, saw where mail is sorted to specific addresses in Montpelier, and mailed a special letter home.  Ask your child to tell you more!

Reading to End Racism

We had a special guest reader in first grade today. Susan, a volunteer with Reading to End Racism, came to our class to discuss issues of bias, prejudice, and vigilance. She read a book called, My Name is Sangoel, to help the children understand one perspective of a refugee coming to the United States.  She was so impressed with the background knowledge and attentiveness of the children, that she is hoping to visit our class again to read another story! We would love to have her visit again.  Ask your child to tell you more!
