Solving Story Problems
First graders have been using addition and subtraction to solve different types of story problems using missing addends. Today we solved: Some ducks were in the pond. Three ducks left the pond and now there are 2 left. How many ducks were in the pond at the start? Students need to both solve the problem, and show their thinking by creating a math picture, equation, or number bond. Here are some examples of how students solved other problems at math.
