17 Days and Counting!

If you haven't heard already, the chicks are coming!! The kindergartners are continuing our study of life cycles by learning about the life cycle of chickens. All 5 kindergarten classrooms are working together to care for the eggs that will soon be little chicks. Our class is assigned to turn the eggs of Fridays. I come in by 7:30 am and turn the eggs the first time. After lunch, our class gets to help turn the eggs, then I turn them once more after school. After each time turning the eggs, we record the temperature in the incubator and which side we turned them to (X's or hearts). In addition to learning about cycles in nature, we are making some literacy connections to this unit such as reviewing the "en" word family (which covers words such as hen, chicken, pen, then, men, etc.). I will also be doing read alouds of different versions of The Little Red Hen, for the children to compare and contrast the stories. More to come on our adventures with chickens!
