All About Mrs. Dostie

All About Mrs. Dostie

I am eagerly starting my eighth year at Union school and fourteenth year teaching in the public schools. While I have always had a love of teaching, I didn't become a certified teacher at first.

I began by leaving my home state of Michigan and heading to Vermont to earn my BA in anthropology and archaeology at the University of Vermont. I was completely enthralled at an early age by cultures of the present and past and dove into my studies. In college, I was involved in an archaeological dig of a 1000 year old Taino site in the West Indies, and researched 19th century burial remains from a cemetery in Saint Johnsbury, VT.

After college, I moved to Boston and found myself at a loss of what to do with my degree. I soon learned about an amazing after school program called Citizen Schools. Citizen Schools helps to extend the learning community for students in low-income communities and has since become an ever expanding, nationally recognized program and has even gotten the attention of President Obama. After working at Citizen Schools and as a museum teacher at a historic house museum in Boston, I decided to continue my formal education and earn my MAEd. I enrolled at Boston College, and haven’t looked back!

When I’m not at school I’m a very busy mom. My husband, Jeremy, owns a custom picture framing business in Burlington, and we have two lovely daughters, Grace (11) and Charlotte (8).

I look forward to learning more about your families!
