North Branch Nature Center

We had a beautiful, sunny day for our afternoon at North Branch. The children learned about how different animals move by hopping like snowshoe hares, bounding like weasels, waddling like bears, and waking like deer. We had a camp fire, roasted marshmallows and played in the snow. Afterward we took a walk along the river looking for animal tracks, then exploded the snow structures and tree maze left from Sunday's Fire on Ice celebration. We couldn't have had a more perfect day. Thank you to Timo and Rachel for joining us!

Pinbox 3000

Django's dad, Ben, joined us this morning to showcase the tabletop pinball machine he invented with his partner.  We learned how they are made, and helped Ben build one from a kit.  He let us try some different models, and left one for us to use in the classroom.  Everyone had a great time learning about this simple machine.  Thank you Ben for teaching us about it!  Be sure to check out his website to learn more!

Patterns in Space

We kicked off our new science unit on the Day in the Dark by observing and discussing how daylight changes at different times of the year, and have been continuing our study with patterns of the sun and moon.  This week, the children made observations and records of the position of the sun and have learned about the phases of the moon. Ask your child to tell you more!
