An Exciting Thursday!

Our day began with a visit from Mr. Boffa who is helping the kindergarten classes write and perform a song about the Vermont animals we are learning about. Our class is helping to write about the habitats of our animals. Has your kindergartener told you what animal he or she is? After lunch we boarded the GMTA bus for North Branch and had a wonderful afternoon exploring the grounds. Thank you Michelle and Sophie for volunteering to join us! It was a great day!

Progress Reports!

Progress reports went home today. Don't forget to check your child's folder!

Into the New Year

Happy New Year! We had a great week back after our winter break! This week in math we focused on reading, writing, and counting numbers in the teens. We also learned a new game that teaches number pairs for making ten. The children shake then spill 10 two sided plastic beans, then count the number of red and white beans they see. From this, they are able to record different combinations of 10. In writing, we are getting ready to wrap up our unit on true stories about moments in our lives and hope to "publish" them by the end of next week. The children are learning to draw and write about their stories, and use labels and sentences. We are working on writing down the sounds we hear, quickly writing the sight words we know, and leaving finger spaces between each word so that our writing is easy to read. This week also focused on beginning to revise our stories. In reading, we continue to build our sight word knowledge and learn and practice strategies to help us become better readers. Please take a moment to look through our "Super Reader Powers" so that you can help your child when they are practicing their reading at home!
